In this enrichment class, students will participate in a variety of activities designed to expand their knowledge of traditional songs, art, and storytelling. This class combines three components: performing a Reader’s Theater, writing original songs, and making a “Crankie”. Students will create a reader’s theater performing an Appalachian Jack Tale, “Jack’s Adventure with King’s Girl.” diving into an adventurous story line with fun costumes based on these notorious tales.
The next two weeks, they will use their artistic abilities and musical background to learn a classic old-time tune and illustrate the story. During he final weeks during students will learn techniques in songwriting, song structure, and harnessing their poetic side to create a masterpiece of music and lyrics.
